2016 Wine auction raises over $180,000!

The 25th Annual Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction was a fantastic success, raising over $180,000. This entire amount goes directly to Hawke’s Bay’s leading end-of-life palliative care provider, Cranford Hospice.

Read more about this years auction at the Hawke’s Bay Today.

More than 600 wine enthusiasts from across New Zealand converged on the Hawke’s Bay Opera House Plaza where the event was opened by Rt Hon John Key, before 42 lots from Hawke’s Bay’s best wineries were auctioned off.

As the sun streamed down and the auction kicked off, we knew it was going to be a big one when early on, Lot#13, a half barrel of Sacred Hill’s 2015 Shotgun Chardonnay, went for an impressive $8,400. The stand-out lot was Lot#15, Tony Bish 2016 Wine & Arts Collaborative – ‘All Things Beautiful’, which saw the hammer go down at an incredible $15,500.

Other auctions to go high were Lot#18, Clearview Estate Winery & Restaurant’s ‘play, stay and savour experience’ at $7,500, Elephant Hill’s Lot#24 for $9,600, and Church Road’s Lot#17, a whole barrel (300 bottles) of 2014 ‘The Squirrel’ Malbec for $9,200. Gavin Chilcott’s painting raised $12,100, well beyond an expected maximum of $10,000.

Chris Tremain demonstrated his brilliant auctioneering ability, at times working bidders into a frenzy, to make sure every lot went for as much as it deserved. Special mention also needs to go out to local tech company MRD Web, who handled credit card payments with a seamless process that completed winning bidders’ transactions.

Chairman Tony Bish said it was great to see the Hawke’s Bay winemaking community once again come together with guests from all over New Zealand, including the many businesses who year after year give so generously to the event. “To have so many local winemakers under the same roof, showcasing their wine, is a truely winning formula.”

The date for next year’s auction is Saturday 11th November 2017 – so mark it in your dairies.

Have a great festive season and we will be back in touch in the New Year.

2015 Wine auction raises $141,000!

We couldn’t be happier how the 2015 Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction turned out. Here’s a piece from the Hawke’s Bay Today

“Some spirited bidding at Saturday’s 24th annual Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction, held at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House Plaza saw a whopping $141,000 raised to support Hawke’s Bay’s leading palliative care facility, the Cranford Hospice.

Wine lovers and connoisseurs enjoyed the rare opportunity to walk away with blends they will never to be able to buy off a shelf again.

The auction kicked off in front of a 450 strong crowd with Clearview Estate blend your own chardonnay or full bodied red quarter barrique (56 litres), going under the hammer for a whopping $7000.

Guests from all over New Zealand showed their generosity and taste for good wine, by opening their wallets, with stand-out lots including a 225 litre barrique from Bridge Pa Triangle Wine District selling for $9500 and a half barrique of 2014 Shotgun Chardonnay from Sacred Hills Rifleman’s Vineyard which sold for $6300.

Renowned New Zealand artist Martin Poppelwell’s Portland 2015 painting sold for a show-stopping $20,000 to a Hawke’s Bay couple.”
